How a chop bar in Accra grew daily customers by 85% with GHS 2,850

Mama Adjei has been cooking waakye and jollof for seven years. Her food is excellent. But ask anyone how to find her, and they'd say "near the Total station" or "that place by the junction."

No one remembered her name. There was no sign. No menu. No way for customers to order ahead.

She had a budget of GHS 3,000. Not nearly enough for a website or a big campaign. So we didn't try to sell her those things.

What we actually did

1. A simple logo (hand-drawn). We sketched a logo featuring Mama Adjei's face and a cooking pot. Designed it on paper first, then digitized simply. No complicated brand guidelines. No expensive files.

2. A roadside sign on a wooden frame. We printed a 4ft x 6ft banner and mounted it on a wooden frame. Total cost: GHS 350. Within a week, customers started saying "meet me at the Mama Adjei sign."

3. A menu board on recycled plywood. Hand-painted by a local sign writer. GHS 250. Customers could finally see prices without asking.

4. WhatsApp Business setup. Free. We taught her how to use the catalog feature and post daily specials. Two months later, 40% of her lunch orders come through WhatsApp.

5. Google Maps listing. Free. Now when someone searches "chop bar near me," Mama Adjei appears with photos of her food and clear directions.

The results after 3 months

Daily customers went from 45 to 83. That's an 85% increase.

WhatsApp orders doubled. She now delivers to offices that used to order from bigger restaurants.

She recovered her entire investment in three weeks.

And the best part? She didn't need a website. She didn't need an expensive campaign. She needed fundamentals, executed well, with someone who understood her budget.

What this taught us

Not every business needs a rebrand. Not every business needs a website. But almost every small business in Ghana needs someone to show them what's possible with the tools they already have.

That's the work we're proudest of.
